A Progressive Step Towards NEP 2020 Goals

NEP 2020 focuses on competency-based education, multilingualism, and improved employability. In consonance with these tenets, TGCHE’s new English curriculum redirects emphasis from memorization to communication, analytical thinking, and imagination. The revamped syllabus will include a variety of content types, experiential learning, and cross-connections to develop well-rounded people.

Major Features of the Revised English Syllabus

Skill-Based Modules:

The new curriculum will have separate modules on spoken English, writing for professional purposes, email etiquette, and resume preparation. These hands-on modules are aimed at making students more employable and communicative.

Inclusive and Modern Content

Conventional literary books are being substituted or supplemented by new, inclusive, and diverse writings that echo the realities of the present time. These include regional literature translated, short stories, digital content, and nonfiction works with themes for youth of today.

Integration of Technology:

Digital literacy has been included in the English curriculum. The students would be educated to look at digital content, decode media narratives, and express themselves effectively online. Teachers are Additionally, suggested to employ digital tools like podcasts, videos, and e-learning platforms for more interactive classes.

Focus on Critical Thinking and Ethics:

The students will then read texts that Encourage dialogue and debate, and analysis. The aim is to foster critical and ethical thinking, so that students develop   the points of view, and express themselves respectfully.

Multilingual Approach:

English is the medium., though the syllabus will further invite code-switching and code-mixing where necessary. Through using this approach, students are smoothly transitioned into using English while their mother tongues are given dignity.

Implementation and Teacher Training

Implementation of the new syllabus is being done in phases in Each and every university and affiliated colleges in Telangana. In support of this shift, TGCHE has started training Teachers programs and workshops. The purpose of these workshops is to familiarize teachers with new pedagogies, resource materials, and evaluation strategies according to NEP 2020.

In addition, patterns in evaluation will shift from the traditional written tests. Oral presentations, group discussions, creative writing tasks, and portfolio submissions will now be part of the assessment approach, strengthening a more detailed evaluation of the language capability of a student.

Student-cantered education is one of the core philosophies of the NEP. TGCHE’s revamped English syllabus captures this by presenting increased adaptability, relevance, and autonomy to students. They are motivated to take   courses, work on projects, and participate actively in class discussions.
