Late one Sunday night, a serious accident shook up Mumbai’s newly built Coastal Road. A teenager, just 18 years old, was driving his Honda City when he crashed into a In a Benz of the Coastal Road tunnels. Around 10:50 PM, the collision was reported in the vicinity of Gate No. 8 of the northbound tunnel.
Within the Mercedes was an eight-month pregnant woman named Sonam Babani, 33, and her husband. Sonam, a fashion influencer and entrepreneur popularly known, was returning from Marine Drive to Prabhadevi. Abruptly, the teenager’s Honda City hit the back of her car.
Luckily, Sonam and her husband were not gravely hurt, but Sonam received some minor injuries, and the back of her Mercedes was severely damaged. Given she’s pregnant, the accident could have been much worse, which makes the entire incident even more shocking.
Police Take Action
Sonam complained to the Malabar Hill Police Station after the accident. Police moved in immediately to carry out a search. They arrested the teenage motorist under provisions that address rash and negligent drive on place of placing human life in peril. Additionally, they took his blood samples for testing to see if he was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. So far, no arrests have been made, but investigations are still under way.
It has been established that the teenager indeed possesses a valid driving licence. Nevertheless, speeding or driving negligently is a very serious offense, irrespective of one’s age.
