With a harsh response to the latest violence in Nashik, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that strict action will be taken against perpetrators of the violence. The unrest, which broke out after the spread of a hate pamphlet in the Panchavati place, has forced the country to pursue a zero-tolerance policy against such violence.

The Spark: Inflammatory Pamphlet Ignites Trouble
The trouble started when a taunting pamphlet, purported to carry derogatory material, was circulated in Nashik’s Panchavati place. The pamphlet took no time in going viral on social media sites, resulting with intense rage of residents. The protests soon turned violent, leading to conflicts with protesters and law enforcement officials.
Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik spoke to the the press, telling them that although one minor had been arrested for the crime, investigations suggested that the act was a part of a conspiracy. “We are certain that though the arrested person is involved, there is another person behind the act, who has done it to hurt the accused,” Karnik said.

Following the violence, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called an emergency meeting with top police officials to review the situation. Showing concern over the worsening law and order, Shinde made it clear that the government would not accept all kind of violence. “Strictest action will follow against those found guilty,” he stated, highlighting the country’s determination to ensure peace and peace.
